With start of the 1st World War, northern Aegean and the Gallipoli Peninsula had become sites of
the biggest naval operation the history had ever seen by then. Different sizes of 150 battleships
were engaged in that operation. According to the documents and memoirs, 66 of them had made
significant reputations with their performances and services.
Sometimes they are displayed in groups of black & white photos taken in their time, as big
battleships, in general. These 66 ships now come alive back to their glorious days, in the colourful
paintings of Mr. Askin. And with these paintings the artist is happy with giving a chance to the
descendants of thousands of sailors who were part of that big historical operation.
